The Orders
Those who serve Corwyth are loyal to the Empire, protective of the weak, defenders of the innocent, fighters for what is good, and servants of the Crown.
Much honour is given to those who serve, plus a regular income.
For those who prefer roaming where danger or adventure may take them, the Order is not for such - but either membership of the Diamond Drake or Paladinship in the Order of the Peruke may be suited to them.
For those who wish only to serve within the Empire where their orders take them, know that the Orders of Corwyth are recruiting for such as they are.
The Empire of Corwyth - The Orders
This is the oath sworn by the guards of the Golden Mace, the order that defends Corwyth and keeps the peace there. To join it, one should speak to their Commander, Wilhelm Drummond, at the Imperial Barracks.
I, __________, swear to defend the Isle of Corwyth, its citizens and rulers, laws and decrees, lands and building, with my body and soul.
If an invader’s foot should tread on the beach, I shall consider he has tread in my house.
If a spear impales the lowest of peasants, I shall consider it has impaled my own son.
If a trader is robbed of his goods, I will restore them to him or pay him from my own purse.
If Corwyth needs my blood for cement or my bones for bricks, my life for its own or my honor for its glory, it shall have it, for I am a servant of Corwyth and its rulers.
This is the oath sworn by the knights of the Silver Heart, the order that travels Corwyth and Ythor righting wrongs, investigating mysteries, and defeating evil monsters on behalf of the Empire, for the protection of its people. To join it, one should speak to their Commander, Edwyth a’Woodham, at the Imperial Barracks.
I, _________, swear to live by and uphold the laws of Corwyth, to honor not only them, but also the purpose behind them.
If any should come to me in need, I will not let them leave me empty handed.
If any should call on me to aid them, my life is theirs until the task is complete.
If I should hear a cry for justice, let me mete it out to the criminal or have it meted out to myself.
If I better serve the world by leaving it, may my flesh be fuel for the flame of justice, my bones be weapons in the hands of the oppressed, and my memory be alive in the hearts of the just!
This is the oath sworn by the soldiers and mariners of the Emerald Star, the order that defends the Carpaasian sea and garrisons Ythor. To join it, one should speak to their Commander, Basquin d’Almirno, at the Imperial Barracks.
I, ________, swear to sail the ocean and patrol the continent, keeping them safe for the people and true to the Imperial Family, until the day that that the stars should fall from the sky.
I shall treat all people equally, be they human, troll, hag, or dwarf, unless they give me reason to do otherwise.
I shall serve firstly the Empire, secondly the Imperial Family, thirdly the people, and never myself.
I shall follow my superiors to the bottom of the ocean and the pinnacle of the peaks; no water or snow, fire or rock, wind or spell, man or beast shall be permitted to stop me.
I shall give up my life if my duty demands it; I shall let pikes be built with my bones, and let them be forged in my boiling blood; but I shall not let the Empire fall.
This is the oath sworn by those who are given the Order of the Heroes of the Diamond Drake, a title given by the Emperor and Empress to those heroes who demonstrate great courage, ability, honor, and wisdom within a quest. They have no commander, and incur no responsibilities with this titles, except for those implied in the oath.
I, ________, swear to be an example to all heroes and heroines in Corwyth.
I shall be brave and corageous, and shall ever be the last to flee, as I have shown as I have faced down the monstrous.
I shall be true and just, and cut off my hands ere they commit a betrayal, for I have walked the good path.
I shall be wise and thoughtful, and will do nothing rashly or hastily, as I have learned through my quest to think in advance of rash action.
I shall be loyal to the Empire, the Imperial family, and to Corwyth, and I shall be true to myself and my loved ones, as I have found admirable in my actions thus far.
Paladin of the Order of the Peruke
This is a special rank accorded to those who make honour their entire aim, and who demonstrate great courage, ability, honour, and wisdom. It is difficult to achieve, and is granted by a complicated process established by Commander Edwyth a’Woodham, who is also the Paladin Knight Champion of Corwyth. She will ascertain the worthiness of the one desiring this rank, set them a Quest suited to the specific individual, and then a further trial is set by the Knight of the Peruke in the form of a Peruke Riddle (NOT necessarily a riddle by any means!). Finally, the one who has passed through all these trials must present himself or herself before the Emperor or Empress, and be tested for worthiness in some inscrutable fashion.
The one granted such a title stands forever ready to risk life and limb for the good of all the innocent, and to fight evil with every power at their disposal. (Note: some believe that the Empress and Emperor are the Grand Masters of the Paladin Heroes, but this is based upon nothing more than a belief that the Imperial Power they possess is an advanced form of Paladin abilities. At best, this is nothing more than speculation.)
Paladins gain special abilities - they can sense evil; they have the
ability to cause their paladin sword to flame; they can fight blarghi
(dæmons) and not be defeated; they have the power to withstand wounds
that would normally be mortal; they have the ability to stem the flowing
of blood from any wound.
